A fun idea for your stairway

chalkboard steps valentines message

I got bored with the stenciling I had done on my stairs and decided I could permanently solve that problem by using chalkboard paint. This will enable me to change the message for holidays or just for a change of scene anytime. This is so great for kids because they can sit on the steps and draw pictures or write messages.  Can you tell I grew up in Kansas????

Materials:

  • painters tape
  • a can of chalkboard paint
  • sander or sandpaper

lightly sand the wood  tape off the trim

Step 1.

Lightly sand the steps. Carefully tape off all trim.

tape off the trim and paint  painted steps

Step 2.

I used two coats of paint and let it dry well between coats. The entire project only took a few hours.

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
