I made this canister set from an old set from the 70’s that were made from oak and had flowers painted on them. I just sanded and painted them and then added book plates. I found some old ceramic knobs for the top. I see these kind of canisters at yard sales and thrift stores all the time.
Materials:
- old canister set
- sand paper
- paint
- book plates
- knobs for top

Step 1.
Sand canisters to remove old varnish and painted design if there is one.
Paint the canisters with craft paint in whatever color you like.

Step 2.
Measure the same distance from the bottom on all the canisters. Attach the book plates using screws or small nails.

Step 3.
Attach knobs to canister tops.

Step 4.
I printed up labels on scrapbook paper and then cut them to fit. Sometimes I put holiday appropriate words in the slots just for fun.
About the Author

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
That is a great way and idea to make something new out of old products. Any way we can recycle is a good one, espescially when it results in something so creative.
I love to rescue old stuff and give it new life! It really bothers me that we live in such a disposable world today.
