Valentines Day Crafts – String of Hearts – Easy Project

slinky-hearts-project.JPG

This project is very easy and is something you can work on while watching television or while riding (not driving!) in a car. It makes a great decoration for Valentines day and holds up well from year to year.

Materials:

  • 1 heart shaped childs “slinky. (If you can’t find one locally you can purchase them online at novelty web sites.)
  • cotton fabric torn into 1/2 inch strips. I usually tear them from 1 yard of fabric and then tie the strips together.

Step 1. Cut the slinky apart one heart at a time being careful to leave some overlap on each one as illustrated in picture.

Step 2. Wrap each heart with fabric strips. Leave some excess as you begin wrapping so you can use it to tie a knot when you finish wrapping each heart.

Step 3. Tie hearts together with fabric strips until chain of hearts is the length you want.

These slinkys come in various shapes and I make similar chains with stars for the 4th of July, and join 3 hearts together to make a shamrock for St Patricks day. (I will demonstrate this in March. )

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
