Old fashioned button frame with ribbon trim.

This is a great project for old time black and white photos and baby pictures.  You only need a frame and some buttons.  I added some ribbon and a ribbon rose to soften it a little but this is one of those projects where you can let your creativity go and really make it your own.

 Materials:

  • frame
  • buttons
  • glue and/or glue gun
  • ribbon or embellishments of your choice

Step 1.  Apply glue to frame in small areas and then begin to apply buttons, one at a time.  After surface is covered I start adding more buttons on top of the other buttons in different spots to give it a layered look. Let it dry well before going on to next step.

Step 2.

After you have covered the whole frame with buttons you can start adding embellishments.  If you want to add a ribbon, tie a small bow and leave extra ribbon at both ends.  Glue the bow on first and then put dots of glue at different spots on the frame and attach the ribbon leaving slack as shown.  I like to add little buttons at each spot where the ribbon is attached.

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
