Step 1.

Cut a piece of quilt or fabric to fit on the back piece of the frame.  Attach it with glue.  Add lace or trim and attach it by hand sewing or glue.  I had scraps from my great grandmothers dress so I added some ribbon from my grandmothers wedding dress by weaving them through the cut work of the fabric and then tying a bow.

Step 2.

I was fortunate to have a family that kept so many things from the past and one of these special things was a ribbon rose that was hand stitched and still in good condition.  I added it to the center to give the whole thing the look of an old dress.  You can use your imagination and make yours anyway you want based on what materials you have available.

Step 3.

I took the ends of the ribbon and bunched it up and stitched it down so it looks more dimensional.

Step 4.

I wrote out the words I wanted with a pencil and then did a running embroidery stitch over the writing.

Step 5.

I printed pictures of my grandmother and great grandmother and then carefully cut around them so that they look like a sillouette. I attached them with glue.

Step 6.

I added my great grandmothers fan to the bottom of the shadowbox.  When you are all done you can either tack or glue the back to the frame.

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
