This project  is fun and easy and one that the kids will have a lot of fun with.  It requires some canvas  (which can be purchased at any fabric store) and some chalkboard paint.

Materials:

1 yard of canvas

chalkboard paint

Step 1.

Cut out  a piece of canvas measuring 22 x13.  Hem the edge all the way around as shown in picture.

Step 2.

Cut a piece of fabric 6″ x 4″.  Hem it all the way around.  I added some alphabet ribbon for fun but you can leave it plain or use any kind of trim.  Stitch the pocket onto the placemat as shown.

Step 3.

Place several layers of newspaper down first and then paint placemat with chalkboard paint.   Let it dry completely and then add another coat of paint.  After it’s completely dry rub some chalk over the entire surface to “season” it.  Wipe it off and then it’s ready to use.

About Elaine Kazinec

I have never met anyone who can't make wonderful things for their homes, friends, and family, only those who think they can't. The purpose of this blog is to show everyone how really simple most projects for the home are to make. When my husband and I bought our first home we were short on cash so I learned to be long on creativity. I have been told that I can make something wonderful out of nothing and that is true. You can too! Some of my favorite things are items that I found in someone's junk pile. I am going to show you how easy it really is. I hope you find the courage to jump in and attempt some of these projects. You will be amazed at how talented you really are.
